"It means the core is open. It means the fire we're watching with our own eyes is giving nearly twice the radiation released by the bomb in Hiroshima. And that's every single hour. Hour after hour, 20 hours since the explosion, so 40 bombs worth by now. Forty-eight more tomorrow. And it will not stop. Not in a week, not in a month. It will burn and spread its poison until the entire continent is dead!"
― Valery Legasov discusses the radioactive releases from the Chernobyl disaster. (Chernobyl 2019)

Capabilities[]

The user can manipulate radiation; energy in the form of photons, electrons, positrons, protons, neutrons, or unidentified forces produced from thermal emissions, electromagnetism, nuclear fission chain reactions, or radioactive decay. Any material that spontaneously emits energetic radiation, for instance alpha particles, beta particles, gamma rays, and neutron particles are considered radioactive. Across the universe, everything possesses a radioactive element, from plant life, foods, metals, soil, electronics, and nearly every material we use. All divergent from safe to energetic radiation that can break subatomic bonds.

Variety of radiation can vary in what they can do, their origins of creation, and what stops them from harming or inducing stability to the erratic particle/energy to convert them into non-radioactive material. Alpha and beta are a form of particle radiation produced from an unstable atom to stabilize the atom. These forms of radiation can be stopped by paper or millimeters of aluminum due to being "heavy" and incapable of penetrating them. Gamma and neutron radiation are one of the dangerous forms of radiation that exist in the universe. They can penetrate nearly all forms of matter. They can penetrate living organisms and organic material and "destroy the subatomic particles that permit them to exist." This can be helpful for the user because they can destroy any unwanted molecular material such as mutations, cancers, viruses, prions, and nanotechnology though radiation can contradict their uses. As radiation can damage organic material, it can inadvertently cause mutations in DNA, RNA, gnomes, proteins, and chemicals. The user may expose themselves or others to damaging amounts of radiation that can induce symptoms of radiation syndrome, such as vomiting, fatigue, headaches, muscle inflammation, diarrhea, bone damage, skin burns, to the decay of organs, flesh, and finally death. This can counteract this if the user possesses radiosynthesis, absorbing radiation to sustain accelerating metabolism to achieve healthy cells, organs, bones, and overall enhanced health.

In short, the user can manipulate non-hazardous and precarious radioactive material mostly frequently in the form of particle radiation or electromagnetic radiation. They can shape radioactive material to construct weapons, armories, buildings, organisms, objects, and other constructs the user can think of. Another thing is creating and unleashing radiation to burn/harm/fatally attack their opponent, increase radiation within anything to induce ionization and corrosion in matter, or deplete it to make an area risk-free. They can induce radioactivity in stable elements by adding or subtracting (except for hydrogen and helium) neutrons from the nucleus of the stable atoms. The user can produce radioactive contamination to induce villages, towns, cities, country-wide areas, inhabitable wastelands, and radiation sickness that can put their opponents in a state of biological degradation.

The user possesses the potential to manipulate radioactivity inaugurating from outer space and astronomical bodies such as thermal and solar radiation, including cosmic rays from stars, or cosmological radiation that emanates from black holes.

Limitations[]

  • Users of Radiation Resistance are resistant, while those of Radiation Immunity are impervious.
  • Since some radiation is a form of energy, users of Anti-Energy Manipulation can destroy all forms of radioactivity.
  • Weak against lead, concrete, iron, (Gamma) paper, (Alpha) aluminium, (Beta) carbon, boron, and water (Neutrons).
  • No ionizing radiation affects pure silica, a type of glass material.
  • User's light is affected by everything that all radiation is unless they are powerful/skilled enough to overcome these limits.
  • Distance, mass, precision, etc., depends upon the user's knowledge, skill, and strength and their power's natural limits.
  • May be unable to create radiation, being limited to manipulating only from already existing sources.
  • While standard hazmat suits are virtual to totally worthless against ionizing radiation, alpha particle radiation can't penetrate both skin and clothing.
  • May be constantly active at varying levels.
  • Might take time to learn control.
  • May be limited on how much or type of radiation they can control.

Trivia[]

  • In entertainment media like western animation, the glowing light emitted from radiation is lime green in color, though in real life its shown to be light blue, a result of ionized by the radiation or an effect known as Cherenkov Radiation, with the former being observed in the air, and the latter inside the liquids normally surrounding a nuclear reactor.
  • As explained earlier, Background Radiation may be a variant to ionizing radiation, but it doesn't exactly harm organisms because the levels of it are too low to induce radiation sickness. Since it existed for a long time on Earth, it can be determined that the radiation was created alongside the planet ever since the beginning.
  • In one of Chernobyl's photographs where some liquidators are scraping and throwing away the rubble and graphite off of the roof, there are 8, light-gray streaks rising the camera lenses, and it is actually what radiation would've looked like whilst being invisible. Next to the cloud chambers, this is another way to spot radiation.
