"So I've taken a few hundred souls - big deal!"
― Snatcher (A Hat in Time)
"But despite your incarnation, too much of your essence is still bound up in your city and its people. It's unfortunate, but I have no other way to separate you. But it's all right. This was never about them. I've taken apart hundreds of mortal souls. They have nothing left to teach me."
― The Collector (Aurora (2019))

The power to devour subjects as souls. Sub-power of Soul Manipulation. Variation of Absorption.

Also Called[]

  • Dementor's Kiss (Harry Potter)
  • Soul/Spirit Collection/Consumption/Draining/Harvesting/Robbery/Stealing/Sucking/Theft

Capabilities[]

The user can absorb/devour individuals as souls, while removing them from the source, into their body and use it in various ways, gaining some form of advantage, either by enhancing themselves, gaining the drained power, using it as a power source, etc., either temporarily or permanently.

Common advantages include adding the target's skills and abilities to users or using the absorbed souls to augment the user's own powers.

Applications[]

Variations[]

Associations[]

Limitations[]

  • May be limited to how much one can absorb.
  • May have a limit for how many souls one can contain.
  • May have limited range, including touch only.
  • May unintentionally gain Divided Mind due to souls having separate sentient minds.
  • May have to continually absorb souls to survive.
  • Soulless entities are immune.
  • May only be able to absorb certain kinds of souls, such as supernatural beings.
  • Absorbing the captured into the user's self may pose some inconsistencies, as that would then mean that at least two souls must now inhabit the same physical body.
  • While the user could also absorb elemental-based spirits without any difficulty, most elements can be extremely dangerous for the user to absorb, resulting in nasty outcomes. For example, if the user happens to absorb a soul that is of poisonous origin, the user could suffer and then physically die.
  • Users of Soul Restoration, Absolute Restoration/Flawless Restoration can restore souls, especially fitting them back into their bodily vessels.
  • Users of either Eternal Soul, Absorption Immunity and Soul Anchoring are immune.
  • Absorption Negation
